Cambodia Travel Diary: Day 4 at Siem Reap

Day 4 was our last day in Cambodia! This day was a very relaxing one since we had no activity scheduled. It's our last chance to shop for souvenirs and some food to bring home from the supermarkets.

We walked around shops near the Old Market and saw a couple of interesting ones. I chanced upon a Tous les Jours store there and got curious on how different it was with the ones in Manila. The store itself had a similar look, but they have this cute fresh fruit cake we don't have here.

For our last lunch, we went back to The Brothers Bar & Restaurant! It's a new bar and restaurant in a traditional Khmer wooden house. They serve an extensive range of Asian, Western, and Khmer cuisine. They have free WIFI that actually works, and live music during the evening.

European Set II ($5.00)
Greek salad served with Samosas
Blue Fettuccini: Fettuccini pasta with creamy blue cheese sauce
Dessert of seasonal fruits platter

This time, I ordered a different European Set. Samosas weren't available, so they had me trade it with Royal Spring Roll (fried mixed vegetables and minced beef in rice wrapper with spicy sauce). I'm not complaining at all. :D The Royal Spring Roll was good, the pasta had a sharp cheese taste, and I also liked the fresh fruit platter. This meal costs just P236 when converted to PHP as of press time. OA sa sulit! ♥

Spanish omelet ($2.00)
Omelet with fried potatoes and onions served with bread

The rest of the dishes I wasn't able to note the names and prices, but everyone was happy with their orders.

Tall glasses of shakes range from $1.20 to $2.00 only.

The Brothers Restaurant
Telephone no.: 012-460097, 093-811810
Address: King’s Road Angkor, Old Market area
Open: 9:00AM - 12:00PM

While walking around, Panda and I saw this Manulife clock and we just had to take a photo. I used to work for them before I went back to school this year.

Before heading back to the airport, we thought of having a quick dinner to combat hunger during our 3-hour flight. I remember Siem Reap International Airport having limited food choices, so we dropped by Pub Street again for the last time. Not everyone in our group has tried Khmer Family Restaurant, so we had dinner here. It was a wrong decision since their service was extremely slow, they got our orders mixed up, and the staff weren't even nice. Also, the WIFI was creeping at a glacial pace. After dining at The Brothers twice, this restaurant was already pushed towards the expensive category, since they don't give value for your money. It's the same price or even a bit pricier than my European Set meal above! Not recommended. So much for being our last dinner, we should have gone to The Brothers or Blue Pumpkin again instead. :/

Goodbye, Pub Street!

This trip has gave me a lot of realizations. Here are my honest feelings, and I don't mean to offend:
  • I'm not really into temples/ruins. They're almost all the same to me. LOL
  • Siem Reap is ideal only as a stopover during your Asian tour, 1-2 days tops.
  • Four full days at Siem Reap is more than enough. It's the provincial side of Cambodia, so there's nothing much to do here. I've already seen what I intended to, so it's very unlikely that I'll go back there.
  • During the trip, I've encountered few very kind people, particularly in host in King Boutique Hotel and the waiter in The Brother's Bar and Restaurant. Some were normal and okay, but there were a lot of shopkeepers whom I felt were rude and were just after my USDs. Once you ask the price, they'd assume you're going to buy and some would get angry when you don't purchase.
  • Break your USDs into small denominations, so there will be less chance of you getting change in Cambodian Riel. It's very hard to use and manage because USD 1.00 = 4027.71 Cambodian Riel.
  • There's nothing much to buy here. Case in point: Pashminas and scarves excited me while I was at Siem Reap, and I don't even care about here in Manila.
  • Next time, I'll think before I book a plane ticket.
  • I enjoyed last year's trip to Bangkok, Thailand last year more.
  •
So this ends my Cambodia Travel Diary series. I've got #TopeTravelandTours to thank for arranging our trip and itinerary!

Love,
Helen

Etude House Magic Any Cushion Launch at Tous les Jours Jazz

Last week, I went all the way to Tous les Jours in SM Jazz, Makati to witness the launch of Etude House Magic Any Cushion, a revolutionary new makeup base cushion!

The theme of the event was summer, and there couldn't be a more perfect time to release the Magic Any Cushion. Take a look at this fancy table centerpiece!

It's my first time to be in Tous les Jours in Jazz Mall. This branch is quite new and spacious.

Snacks were served to all guests. I loved the refreshing Iced Citron Tea, and the delicious macarons and pastries.

Right by the stage, I spotted this dreamy pink train case made for princesses, filled with everything Etude House!

I couldn't resist taking a mirror selfie using my equally girly camera.

Here are the latest products of Etude House: Color Lips-fit and Magic Any Cushion.

The Magic Any Cushion is a cushion makeup base that comes in the cutest macaron-inspired packaging. It has a similar concept to the CC cream in terms of its color correcting properties, but these ones aren't color changing. Instead, it comes in 3 shades fit for every skin concern. Magically tone up your skin with these:

#1 Magic Pink (Bloom Up!)
For pale skin tone, to make vivid & lovely skin tone!

#2 Magic Mint (Redness Cover)
For red skin tone, to make even & bright skin tone!

#3 Magic Peach (Brightening Dull Skin)
For dark & dull skin tone, to make clean & bright skin tone!

During the event, Ms. Elise Kwon, Etude House Global Trainer, gave us a background on the product. Magic Any Cushion is perfect for the hot weather here in the Philippines because of its cooling properties and SPF 34/PA++.

Ms. Yhun Hee Kang, Etude House Global Makeup Artist, did a demo on the cute "Strawberry Macaron" inspired look. She chose Magic Any Cushion in Magic Peach for the model's beautifully tanned skin tone. This shade is highly recommended for morenas, but I think peach can work for all skin tones since it's the most neutral shade in the range. The trick with cushions is to just pat, pat, and pat the puff lightly all over your face for even coverage. After using the Magic Any Cushion as makeup base, she topped it off with the Precious Mineral Any Cushion (which is the BB cream version). She topped it off with a pink lippie from the Color Lips-fit range.

The result was a super fresh and natural look that's perfect for everyday wear.

My tablemates: Andy, Rowena, and Erika

I also met Terry for the very first time!

I ♥ Magic Any Cushion!

I had fun learning new makeup tricks and chatting with these girls! Can't wait to try the Magic Any Cushion. My favorite color is pink, but I feel that my Magic Mint will suit my skin more, as it looks reddish sometimes, especially when I don't have any makeup on.

Here's a guide to help you find your perfect Magic Any Cushion color! :D

The Magic Any Cushion is priced at P998.00, and is available in all Etude House stores nationwide. Like Etude House Philippines on Facebook for more information, updates, and promotions!

So which shade do you like best: Magic Pink, Magic Mint, or Magic Peach? :3

Helen

Tous les Jours Dark Glaze Chocolate Cake (Again!) + Patisserie Connoisseur Card

It's my Mom's birthday today! ♥

And so, I had to get her our all time favorite: Tous les Jours Dark Glaze Chocolate Cake! I got this for my Dad last year, too.

Tous les Jours Dark Glaze Chocolate Cake (P598.00)
Made with authentic belgian chocolate layered with rich chocolate butter cream and topped with a layer of chocolate ganache

The addiction just never ends since this cake is just sooo good.

Trivia: Even my cake-hater sister LOVES this! After she tried it for the first time, she asked me to buy this cake twice even if there were no occasion.

As usual, the cakes from Tous les Jours are ALWAYS fresh! I bought it today, and this one's good until March 5, 2014 but I bet it will all be gone tomorrow.

The top part of the cake is entirely covered in chocolate ganache which is so yummy! It also has 3 heart cookies where you can write your special message on, a chocolate stick, and a green tea macaron.

Around the side of the cake is a plastic wrap. When you remove this, the cake will be less cute. Haha! Let's read the tiny message...

You are so special to me.
You are my joy, my love, and my life.
Living without you will tear me apart.
Cause you make my life worth living.

I adore this cake a lot, but everything wasn't so perfect today! My cake didn't come with the usual 5 colorful, long and slim candles and plastic cake knife because it was out of stock. For all branches, as the cashier said. That's not good. It didn't help that the staff in SM The Block weren't the friendliest I've encountered. I guess they were replaced with new hires (?), since they seemed to not know that I used to buy their cakes a lot last year. Oh well. They could've just given me a GWP to appease me, but too bad my purchase was P2.00 short (of the P600.00 amount required).

Tous les Jours Patisserie Connoisseur

All is not lost though, as I now have my new Tous les Jours Patisserie Connoisseur membership card! I'm so happy with this one since it's so cute! (Okay, bipolar mode. Haha!)

For a P500.00 single-receipt purchase, you can get this card for free. This one earns me 2 points (equivalent to P2.00) for every P100.00 purchase, similar to Etude House and Tony Moly.

These are the cards I have from my favorite Korean brands Etude House, Tony Moly, and Tous les Jours! :3

Christmas Gifts 2013

It's time for another haul post! This time, I'll be revealing the Christmas gifts I got last month. :D

From brands:

The Body Shop Ginger Manicure Set & White Musk For Men EDT
This was the first Christmas present I received last year. It arrived as early as December 2! The Body Shop is always sweet and thoughtful! ♥

By the way, The Body Shop is having their Post Christmas Sale, where you can get their Christmas edition items at 50% off!

From Mentos Philippines

Winning this Ice-Watch from buying a bottle of Mentos gum made me extremely happy last month! I wanted the pink one, but this blue watch is also nice, versatile, and sporty!

Pantene Miracle Water & Daily Intensive Conditioner
From BDJ and Pantene (Get your own set at http://group.ilovebdj.com/)

The Pastry Company is hands down my favorite place to get my macaron fix. You have to try this! :D

Goodies from my favorite Korean brands which deserved a separate blog post. Thanks AGC family for being so generous and thoughtful! :)

BDO Keychain & Notebook
From BDO

This was a gift from my home branch at BDO Roosevelt-Pitimini. To be honest, it's my first time to appreciate gifts from banks. Haha. I don't like generic planners and umbrellas! I find the keychain cute and inspiring, reminding me of my financial goals this year. The notebook, on the other hand, doesn't have lines or anything written in it so it's perfect!

From my colleagues:

Tong Yang Garden P1,000 GC
Team Exchange Gift from Ms. Mary Ann

Chocolates
From Althan and Michelle

Chocolates
From Jaymee and Achi Bear

Hershey's Candy Cane & Cookies 'n' Creme
From Achi V and Analyn

Marshmallows, Candies, and Crispies
From Tina
As you can see, giving and receiving chocolates in the office was the trend for 2013!

Paul Frank Luggage Tag
From Jumar

Human Nature Natural Strengthening Shampoo in Cool Peppermint
From Ness

This one has rekindled my love for Human Nature's hair care products! I ordered the matching conditioner the moment I received this, and now my wavy hair is so healthy! Love!

The Body Shop Leona Lewis Lip Gloss in Deerlicious Coral
From Kyra

The Leona Lewis CD was from The Body Shop a few months back. It makes for a good backdrop for my new Leona Lewis Lip Gloss. I love this one since it's perfect for the cool weather we're having lately - no chapping, just happy and shiny lips!

Bracelet
From Robin

From my family:

Bracelet
From my aunt Dorothy

SSI Purple Gift Card
From my sisters Melissa and Vivian

I'm thinking where to spend this. I'm thinking it's either makeup from Beauty Bar or food from Marks & Spencer. (Food? Boring, I know! Haha. My sister is saving her card for Zara.)

Black Asprey NATO Nylon Watch Strap (to go with my Veloci watch)
From my sister Cindy

I love this black watch strap! Now I can officially wear my Veloci watch everyday since the black strap goes with everything.

Black Skater Skirt
From my sister Ann

I like that I can wear this skirt to the office or at the mall. Skater skirts are so cute, I want them in all colors!

From my sweetest friend:

Marks & Spencer Blissful Strawberry Moisturising Hand & Body Lotion
From La Reina

I wasn't really expecting to receive a lot this year (someone's getting old and losing the warm and fuzzy Christmas spirit), maybe just from my sisters (since that's what we always do during Christmas), but I feel truly blessed. Thank you to everyone who remembered me! :D

I hope you all got to enjoy and make the most out of the holidays! Looking forward to the new year. :)

Love,
Helen
