Review: SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner

After almost a year, here's another SKIN1004 review! 💖 I'm all for brightening skincare, so I'm pretty stoked to try this one out.

My first encounter with the brand was in September last year, where I reviewed SKIN1004's Madagascar Centella Toning Toner and Watergel Sheet Ampoule Mask. That particular version contained Centella Asiatica Extract (84%) as its first ingredient, niacinamide, PHA, and hyaluronic acid.

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner was released just 3 months ago, and this toner contains Centella Asiatica Extract (90%) as its first ingredient, niacinamide, MadeWhite (Madecassoside), and Singreen (a natural exfoliating agent).

As always, the packaging is simple and on point! It comes in a matte, colorless plastic bottle which highlights the pure formula of the toner with no artificial colorant and fragrance.

The ingredients list is indicated on the box. The manufacturing & expiry dates are printed on both the base of the box and bottle. The box and the bottle have sticker seals to keep the product tamper-proof and fresh.

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner has a divine texture that resembles water. For something that provides deep soothing care, this is definitely non-sticky! It has a gentle exfoliating action that removes dead skin cells and dirt, but it won't cause visible peeling at any given point. This toner is so mild, it can be decanted to an atomizer and serve as your mid-day skin freshening face mist. It leaves zero stickiness and tackiness, and it is instantly absorbed by the skin. I didn't get any skin irritation from this toner, as it's suitable with sensitive/acne-prone skin. I have been using this for 2 weeks, but I can't say if it fades my blemishes. I will continue using this day and night to see its long term effect.

Price: PHP 946 for 210ml
Available at Shopee (ships from South Korea)

Review: Pink bath essentials from Hygienix & Cathy Doll

Pink bath essentials + a quick review 🌸

Hygienix Body Wash in Super Sakura (PHP 200/500ml)
👍 This body wash has a very clean (almost clinical) scent with hints of floral. I like it!
👍 It contains Vitamin E and sakura extracts.
👍 It lathers well and is easy to rinse off.
👍 It cleans my skin well. Initially, my skin felt squeaky clean, but long term use has proven that it is indeed non-drying.
👍 It kills 99.99% E. coli and S. aureus bacteria.
👍 It's free from 10 unwanted chemicals: triclosan, triclocarban, alcohol, paraben, silicone, DEA, lanolin, formaldehyde-releaser, mineral oil, and petrolatum.
👍 It comes in 2 other variants: Mega Menthol (WANT!) and Citrus Blast.
👍 It's very affordable for its quality, and the brand even goes on sale.

I wanted to use a lotion that would go well the my clean, floral scent of my body wash, so I shopped my stash and found this. 🛍

Cathy Doll Ready 2 White Whitener Body Lotion (PHP 199/50ml)
👍 This lotion has a pleasant, floral scent.
👍 It has a milky, pearly texture which makes the skin glow. ✨
👍 It contains a cocktail of skin brighteners - arbutin, niacinamide, white mulberry bark extract, snail secretion extract, hydrolyzed collagen, centella asiatica extract, vitamin C, and glutathione.
👍 It delivers an instant whitening effect.
👍 It absorbs quickly and is definitely not sticky.
👍 It does not come off with just water. The product stays on your skin.
👎 The whitening effect is not permanent, of course.
👎 Packaging says it contains intense glutathione, but glutathione is the last ingredient on the list.
👎 Packaging is too big for its quantity. A smaller tube would suffice.

Helen

Review: The Body Shop Almond Milk Body Yogurt & Hand Cream

I have so much love for The Body Shop's Almond Milk range! 💛

The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Calming & Protecting Hand Cream (PHP 295) is my WFH deskside beauty essential. I wash my hands too often and this keeps dryness at bay. This one absorbs quickly and leaves no greasy feel. This hand cream is made with organic almond milk and Community Trade honey.

The Body Shop Almond Milk Body Yogurt (PHP 795) is perfect for our hot weather. I've been a fan of The Body Shop's Body Butters for years, but the Body Yogurt feels great on my skin even during warm summer nights. I thought it won't be moisturizing enough for my dry heels, but consistency is key and my skin feels balanced and is healed from dryness with long term use. The sweet, nutty scent is also so comforting. I'm already finished with my tub, and I'm currently using the Limited Edition Cool Cucumber Body Yogurt, which gives me super good vibes every time I use it. (That one deserves a separate blog post!)

Helen

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Refreshing Eyes Cube

As I have oily skin, I can't deal with heavy creams for skincare products. My go-to eye creams are hardly ever "creams"; I prefer serum or eye roll-ons because of their light texture.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Eyes Cube is an anti-fatigue eye stick with mild, cooling sensation. It reminds me of Tony Moly Fresh Aqua Cooling 24 Eyes Stick, which I think is already discontinued.

What I love about it:
❄️ Formulated with vitamin E and wheatgerm oil
❄️ Feels light and refreshing on the delicate eye area
❄️ Moisturizing
❄️ Doesn't sting
❄️ Not sticky
❄️ Ideal for travel as it's spill-proof

Price: PHP 795
Available in thebodyshop.com.ph

The backdrop features my weekend DIY project, a girly mask lanyard using some pink pearls I found at home. It's heavy, but it serves its purpose!

Review: The Body Shop Banana Hair Mask

My weekend pampering session is made complete with The Body Shop Banana Hair Mask. 🍌 This is like revisiting an old love as I reviewed the The Body Shop Banana Conditioner way back in 2012.

Leave this on your hair for 5 minutes, once a week.

What I love about it:
💛 Made with Community Trade ingredients: banana puree from Ecuador, Brazil nut oil, Brazilian capuacu butter, shea butter, and cocoa butter
💛 Smells sooo good & the fruity scent lingers on your hair
💛 Makes my hair softer
💛 Great for normal to dry hair
💛 100% vegan
💛 Forever against animal testing

Price: PHP 895
Available online (at www.thebodyshop.com.ph, Shopee, and Lazada) and in store

Review: Silkygirl Silky Care Feminine Hygiene Wash

Silkygirl Silky Care Feminine Hygiene Wash is one of the brand's new releases here in the Philippines. Aside from makeup, they also carry body care items such as fragrances, deodorants, body powders, and feminine wash.

Silkygirl Feminine Hygiene Wash is completely soap-free and it gently cleanses the skin without irritation.

Silkygirl Feminine Hygiene Wash in Gentle

The Gentle variant is recommended for sensitive and irritation prone skin. It's made with calendula, macadamia, and avocado, which provides further soothing, nourishing, and moisturizing actions. Other noteworthy ingredients include witch hazel leaf water, salicylic acid, menthol, matricaria flower extract, soybean oil, jojoba seed oil, and wheat bran extract. This feminine wash is so mild and ideal for everyday use. 💙

Silkygirl Feminine Hygiene Wash in Refreshing

The Refreshing variant is recommended for your red days. It is enriched with eucalyptus and menthol for extra freshness. Other feminine washes being marketed for use during your monthly period are too drying for everyday use, but not this one. If you prefer a cooling sensation down there during bath time, go for this variant. I repeat, it's not drying at all! 💚

Introductory price: PHP 98

NEW Silkygirl Products for 2021

I miss writing about beauty-related content! My Instagram posts are all mostly food now as I have been working from home for over a year. The thoughtful folks over at Silkygirl sent over this hefty care package filled with the brand's new releases, which got me all excited to do makeup reviews again! I'm already wearing their red lip tint as I write. (Thank you, Silkygirl team!)

Inside my Silkygirl box 💝

Silkygirl Silky Care Feminine Hygiene Wash
(Introductory Price: PHP 98 instead of PHP 150 for 100ml)

I'm actually excited for these because I just ran out of feminine wash and these came just in time. Silkygirl Feminine Hygiene Wash comes in 2 variants: Gentle (for sensitive & irritation-prone skin) and Refreshing (recommended during monthly period).

Silkygirl Gen Matte Cushion Foundation SPF 25/PA++
(PHP 595, but currently on sale at PHP 328)

I remember loving and raving about Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion before, and I still think it's better than Laneige's. Silkygirl Gen Matte Cushion Foundation has a soft cushion applicator and it comes in 3 shades: 01 Light, 02 Natural, and 03 Medium. This water-based foundation has a luminous matte finish and is free from oil, paraben, fragrances, and animal-testing. Sounds so promising!

Silkygirl Gen Matte Lip Cream
(PHP 350, but currently on sale at PHP 158)

Lip Up to the MATTE-ness! Silkygirl Gen Matte Lip Cream promises extreme comfort and generous moisture whilst being matte. This liquid lipstick range comes in 10 shades, and the ones on the photo are 01 Just Nude, 02 Mauve Mallow, 03 Retro Pink, and 04 Crimson Love.

Silkygirl Cool Chic Stick Blush
(PHP 225, but currently on sale at PHP 124)

The product name "Cool Chic" gives a hint of what's to come... which is a cooling sensation on your cheeks upon application! I would have bought this in a heartbeat if this had existed when I was in high school. (I was so fascinated with cream blush then!) Fast forward to today, Silkygirl now has a water-based tint formula blusher that comes in 3 shades: 01 Peach, 02 Pink, and 03 Tangerine.

Silkygirl MLBB Lip Tint
(PHP 225, but currently on sale at PHP 102)

This was the item I immediately tried out the moment I opened my Silkygirl box! I was so curious on how Silkygirl MLBB Lip Tint would perform as a water-based lip tint. Most tints look uneven on my lips (darker on the inner part on my lips, while my outer lip barely has any color) and I am not too crazy about the gradient look. Silkygirl MLBB Lip Tint is so pigmented and it applies EVENLY. It comes in 5 shades: 01 Autumn, 02 Rosie, 03 Orchid, 04 Nude, and 05 Scarlet - and oh my, I am in love with red lips all over again because of the shade Scarlet! 💋 Will share my swatches and full review real soon!
