When my sister and I went to Mongkok, Hong Kong late last year, we very much enjoyed how beauty shops were situated beside each other. You don't even have to look for them! 😍 If in the Philippines, the Korean makeup stores are all located inside the mall, in Hong Kong they're individual shops scattered along the streets. We gravitated towards Innisfree since we don't have that here in Manila, but it's pricier there and we could just get our fill from Althea instead. We also went to Holika Holika since I don't get to check out this brand as much here in the Philippines.
We came at the right time since they were on sale. Some of their items were at 50% off, including the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB! It's not an old stock since it expires 20180504, and we were able to get it for around P400+ (when converted to PHP). Here, this one costs around P800. Good deal! 😁 This product comes in 2 shades: 01 Aqua Beige and 02 Aqua Neutral. I never go for the first shade since they tend to be too light/white for my skin tone, so I went for 02 Aqua Neutral which is my exact shade match. Love it!
This BB cream is water-based, and while the descriptions on the box hint that this one gives off a moist and shiny finish (which is not ideal in our humid climate), let me be the bearer of good news and say that this BB cream (or jelly) gives the skin a demi-matte finish, which makes it ideal even for those with oily skin. 😊 It contains 80% aqua mint water which gives the skin a slight cooling feel upon application. Actually, upon checking the ingredients, this one has 3 kinds of mint extracts in it! It also has SPF 20 PA++, and Titanium Dioxide is second on the ingredients list.
It comes with a sponge which you can use to blend the product, but it doesn't really work well. I prefer using my moist Cathy Doll Petit Ice Cream Magic Blender for an airbrushed finish.
Because of its jelly texture, it comes with a spatula which you can use to scoop out the product. It's not the most hygienic but I'm not really that sensitive about it. Besides, the packaging is cute - girly polka dot cap and flower-shaped frosted glass bottle! 😍 I don't mind that it's heavy or breakable, since I don't bring it out anyway.
Jelly texture!

With Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB
Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB is my cheat product for instant blooming skin. (Like this can get you compliments even when you lack sleep!) It feels cool and refreshing so it's great to use during hot days, but I always set it with powder for good measure. (This prevents makeup meltdown.) It evens out my skin, decreases redness while at the same time livens up the sallow areas of my face. It can cover minor imperfections, but you'd still need concealer for huge zits and dark circles. This BB has a fresh and pleasant scent that's not too strong; I actually enjoy it and it doesn't cause me to break out. This BB doesn't oxidize on me, but oil control is average. I still need to blot or retouch with powder by midday.
Pros:
- Cute packaging
- Water-based
- Fresh, cooling sensation
- Medium coverage
- Demi-matte finish
- With SPF 20 PA++
- Pleasant fragrance
- No breakouts
Cons:
- Packaging is not travel-friendly
- Tendency to be unhygienic (due to spatula applicator)
- Average oil control
- Only comes in 2 shades (the darker one is my exact shade match, so there is no shade match for deeper skin tones)
Price: P795 in Holika Holika Philippines
I actually like this BB cream a lot and I've been using this consistently for months already. (It's been a while since I last found a BB that I've used long term.) I hope to use this up within the year! 😊
Love,
Helen
