Friuli Trattoria, Maginhawa

Foodie Fridays. I might just have to start a segment for that! But then, it's already Saturday, so here goes.

Since yesterday was Friday, my colleagues and I went for a much needed lunch out over at Maginhawa - a 10 minute drive from our office. It's been a while since we were able to do so. This time around, we went to Friuli Trattoria.

Friuli Trattoria is a hole-in-the-wall hidden gem located in Maginhawa Street. The restaurant has a simple, very homey ambiance. Nothing fancy; think checkered table cloths, monoblock chairs, beige walls, and chalkboards showcasing their menu items. But I think what makes the place stand out is the food. I can't believe something so Italian and so tasty could be this affordable!

Tre Formaggi (P180.00)
Best seller pizza of 3 cheeses - 2 layers of mozzarela and cheddar and a hint of blue. A heavenly treat for cheese lovers.

Friuli's pizzas come in a standard format - thin whole-wheat crust, 10 inches, 8 slices. We ordered one of their best-selling items, which is the Tre Formaggi. Usually, I am not thrilled when my pizza has no toppings, but this one is the only exception. I love how the mozzarela cheese stretches to infinity when you manage to pull a slice from the plate. The blue cheese also blends well with the rest of the ingredients.

All Meat (P240.00)
Feeling like a carnivore? The this pizza is for you. Filled with lean ground beef, ham, pepperoni & Italian sausages. A delight in every bite.

Since we love meat more than veggies, this is already a win by just being "All Meat". It's really good. Something I would order again next time!

Angel Hair Putanesca (P130.00)
Angel hair with our version of putanesca -  made of tomatoes, capers, anchovies & olives. A real Italian treat!

The delicate strands of angel hair pasta is a nice contrast to the flavorful, tangy, and zesty red sauce. It's definitely far from the sweet red sauce of Jollibee Spaghetti.

Spaghetti Carbonara (P130.00)
Classic carbonara - white sauce with egg & bacon served with spaghetti.

My first though: Oh my, it's too saucy. (My friends all know that I hate wet, saucy food.) But I actually liked this! I could distinctly taste the creaminess (even milkiness) of the sauce.
Tuna and Mushroom Spaghetti (P110.00)
Spicy white sauce with tuna & mushrooms served with spaghetti.

We already had something tangy, something sweet and creamy, so now it's time for something a bit spicy, but not too spicy! This is something for the red-sauce averse. It has just a little hint of spiciness that goes well with the tuna flakes and mushroom slices.

All these were more than enough for our 4 man-sized stomachs. Yes, mine is man-sized too. I managed to have 4 slices of pizza and a little bit of the 3 pasta dishes. :D

Total damage: P790.00/4 persons = P197.50 each (Not bad? It's amazing!)

  2. Hey, thanks for reminding me about Friuli. I last ate there in 2006. Haha! I might take my boyfriend there instead of The Brgr Project. Have you tried that? It's somewhere along Maginhawa too!

    1. I haven't tried it but I would love to! I'm at the mercy of my colleague's driving skills when it comes to dining at Maginhawa. Haha! :)

  3. Everything looks so good! And the dishes seem affordable too. You just made me crave more for pizza ^^
