A collective review of Korean mask sheets: Skinfood | Y.E.T. | Pure Smile

Here's the second installment of my Korean mask sheet review! 😊

These were actually hoarded from last year, and I forgot about them so I used them just a few weeks ago. Buti nalang hindi pa expired! 😂

Skinfood Beauty in a Food Mask Sheet in Lemon was a gift I got from Christmas last year. It's available locally in Skinfood boutiques, but I'm not sure how much it costs since I didn't check. Pretty sure it's overpriced here. LOL

My skin condition upon using this mask was reddish, dehydrated, and itchy. This mask smelled slightly like Pledge lemon spray (yup, the one you spray on furniture) and it had an initial slight sting which worried me. Usually I immediately toss masks that sting my face in the trash, but I was too lazy to move as I was in bed with this mask on. So I ended up leaving it on my face for a little bit over 20 minutes where it became totally absorbed. It didn't leave a sticky residue on my face. When I checked in the mirror, my skin looked even and plump. No signs of redness and dryness. The morning after, my skin was still so nice and flake-free. Makeup application was a breeze, too. I love this mask!

Y.E.T. Don't Worry Mask Sheet Police Mask (Oil Control) was a cheap Althea find. I think I got it only for P24! (Haul post on my IG.) Nope, this mask won't make you look like a police woman since it's not a character mask. It's simple but basic. It has a non-sticky watery essence and no scent. 👍 It's a mask sheet you can use everyday since it's so affordable.

Pure Smile Neco Punch Point Pads in Hibiscus was a freebie from Althea from their 2nd birthday. It's so cute! Each pack contains 10 pieces of round masks that you can place on your cheeks and forehead. I wanted to like it but my skin doesn't like it. 😔 The essence feels sticky on the skin, and a few minutes after I removed it, my cheeks started to itch so I had to wash my face again and redo my skincare routine. (The good thing with my skin is that it itches ASAP most of the time when something irritates it, so I immediately stop using a product.) I think this already went on clearance sale early this year. I won't be repurchasing this one for sure.

Gummy bear for your hands: Skinfood Gummy Bear Jelly Hand Butter

When you're selling beauty products, packaging matters. I say it so, because I wouldn't be buying my 3rd tube of hand cream currently on rotation if it weren't so damn cute! 😍 And to think I still have 2 more sealed tubes of hand creams in my stash as backup. I really have do to a shopping ban this 2018... But how can anyone resist cute stuff! >.<

I rarely shop at Skinfood stores in our local malls since I've always seen them as overpriced, so I just shop at my go-to favorite online store - Althea! 💸

Skin Food Gummy Bear Jelly Hand Butter comes in 2 variants: Cherry Chocolate (pink) and Dark Chocolate (yellow). Though I think I would like the smell of dark chocolate more, I like the pink bear more than the yellow bear. 😂 The packaging resembles a real gummy bear, only bigger! The bear wears the product label like a cape, too.

You have to twist the head and decapitate (huhu) the bear to reveal the nozzle tip dispenser. The body is made of soft plastic that's squeezable. It's handy while the bear is full of product, but a pain when the hand cream's about to run out. I usually cut open my regular hand cream tubes to maximize its use, but how can I cut open this bear? 💔

The label is entirely in Hangul so I don't understand a single word. The manufacturing and expiry dates are indicated at the base of the packaging.

Skinfood Gummy Bear Jelly Hand Butter is slightly thicker than the normal hand cream. Even with its creamy texture it absorbs nicely and almost instantly on my sandpaper hands. I love that it leaves my hands soft, healthy, and delicious - like black forest cake! I'm super happy with this purchase! 😍

Skinfood Black Bean Eye Brow Pencil in Black Brown

When I had my brows tattooed, I thought I could escape from grooming my brows.😀 It's been 8 months since my third (and final) retouch, and I still think it's worth it. I wake up with brows, and I have brows even after taking a bath. (A feat that was impossible before I had them done!) I don't feel the need to put on makeup when I'm just running errands, but for days when I have important events to attend to, I do a full face makeup with brow makeup for added definition.
 

Skinfood Black Bean Eye Brow Pencil in 3 (Black Brown)

This one's actually a present from Dawn, and I've kept it for months before deciding to use it. In the past, I'm used to filling in my brows using eyebrow powder and an angled brush, so I never got trained to do my brows using pencil liners. For starters, this one's very easy to work with! I also like the shade, since I have black hair.

The eyebrow pencil is retractable, so there's never a need to sharpen. On the other end is a spoolie to help blend out harsh lines. Despite the normal pencil size, I find it to contain a tiny amount of product - about just an inch length! If you buy this from Korea, there won't be any problem because it's average price is at KRW2,500 (about P107), which is pretty cheap. But I don't even want to know how much this one costs in our local Skinfood stores, where the markup is exaggerated. (Like when they first got into the Philippines, I thought Skinfood was a high-end brand.)

When worn:

My eyebrow tattoo makes it easy for me to draw on my brows since there's already a pattern to follow. I use the spoolie to blend out the inner parts of my brows for a softer look, but never for the tip because I want it defined. The product goes on smoothly on the skin; it never tugs. Plus points for the black bean nutrients that prevent eyebrow fallout. It lasts fairly long on my oily skin. It's not waterproof, but it stays on as long as I don't rub my brows (as opposed to brow powders that budge when I accidentally touch my brows). For it's normal price in Korea, this one is definitely a good buy.

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask

I love Korean skincare, but I rarely get to try Skinfood products because they're overpriced here in the Philippines! While their stores here are perpetually on sale, they're still more expensive vs. getting them straight from Korea - particularly from Althea, where my sister and I love getting our Korean skincare fix. (This is not a sponsored post.) :)

Today's review is about one of Skinfood's Black Sugar Mask. I'm used to sheet masks, so whenever I get to try another type I get excited! This one's a hot item of Skinfood, and though there are countless reviews already, I'll share mine as well.

 

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask

When we bought this mask months ago, it was at a special promo deal of around P280 for a limited time period, but upon checkout and payment via credit card, we were charged P330. Tried to email the Althea CS, but it never got resolved. :/ I don't think they'll ever refund it, but at least we got it at almost half the price of its Philippine SRP in stores.

Ingredients:

This mask is very easy to use. After cleansing, just massage an appropriate amount onto your damp face, leave on for around 15 minutes, and wash it off afterwards.

When you open the tub, there's a thin inner cover which protects the product.

I wasn't able to take a photo of it during its untouched state (beauty blogging crime! haha), but it looks like brown sugary jam. It looks a lot lighter in person, just like the swatches below.

I massaged it all over my face and since it's my first time to try a sugar scrub, it felt really gritty against my skin. Remember, your face has to be damp so this scrub would spread easily, and using your ring finger helps as it's has the most gentle pressure. If you find this too abrasive, you can add water or toner while massaging. On my end, I didn't have to do so as there was no irritation during and after scrubbing. 

The scrub has a very pleasant scent. I think it smells citrusy, while my sister said it smells like cola (!). The scrub warmed up my skin a bit to release dirt and oil, so by the time I washed it off, my skin felt baby smooth and balanced. Never dry and tight! It looked fresh and radiant, just like I had a decent amount of rest. Just remember to put on a light moisturizer afterwards to seal the deal. If you want to further pamper your skin, follow with your favorite sheet mask!

My skin felt really soft for up to the next 2 to 3 days, and my makeup adhered better because the canvass was smooth and more even that it ever was. (My lack of exfoliation is one of the culprit why I'm having lackluster skin that's rough to touch sometimes.) I'm adding this to my skincare routine and I'll commit to using this once or twice a week, also as a way of makeup detox to deeply unclog pores and nourish it at the same time.
