The Body Shop Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum

When I went to The Body Shop's event last April, we were introduced to two new products in their skincare lineup: Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum and Oils of Life Revitalising Sleeping Cream. I admit that I was and still am more excited to discover the Drops of Light range since I feel that it's more targeted for my skin concerns. I got to try the star product which is the serum, and I've been using it everyday - consistently for 6 weeks already!

A lot of my readers ask me what effective spot remover I can recommend, and I think I have found the legit answer.

Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum

Replenish and illuminate skin with this lightweight, fast‑absorbing, non‑sticky serum. It glides effortlessly to deliver efficient brightening whilst leaving skin feeling instantly supple and hydrated. After 4 weeks skin imperfections and yellowness are reduced, pores look minimised and skin looks brighter and more translucent.

Ingredients:

This serum contains Red Algae from the North Atlantic Waters and a high amount of Vitamin C - major skin brighteners! I also appreciate that it contains Salicylic Acid, and I believe this serum has been keeping my skin clear for the past 6 weeks and counting.

The packaging is very hygienic as it comes with a dropper applicator. The bottle and the dropper is made of glass; it actually looks fine to me. It has a very clean and simple look, but I've had feedback telling me it looks cheap or that it looks like a toy. I think what would have made it better is that the bottle be made translucent so you can see the amount of product left but iridescent so it has that enchanting glow.

However, something is wrong with the way the bottle closes. I'm not sure if this goes for everyone, but it's an issue with my serum. I close the lid tightly after using it every time, but when I get back to it after a few hours, the cap always comes loose. This may lead to product evaporation.

Now on to the how the product worked on my skin! I've always said that my skin is oily, and I know it is. But I didn't dig deep into the reason why it is oily. Twice, I had makeovers done by pro makeup artists prior to using this serum. Both happened on separate occasions and they didn't know each other, but they had a common comment about the status of my skin. I said my skin might be oily or combination, since my cheeks are all itchy and sometimes flaky, while the rest of my face is shiny. They said my skin is dehydrated, hence, it overproduces oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. :o I began to drink the right amount of water for my body (around 6 glasses, as recommended for my weight but I don't really get to 8 glasses) and using this serum before my gel moisturizer. Can you guess what happened?

According to The Body Shop's test on 59 Asian women, after 4 weeks:
  • Healthy brightness 95% agree
  • Even tone 85% agree
  • Pure translucency 85% agree
  • Minimised appearance of pores 83% agree
  • Smooth suppleness 88% agree

Note that I've applied this serum to my skin every night for 6 weeks before using a gel moisturizer. I only need 2 drops for my face and neck. I really love the water light texture of this one! It's like I'm just applying water/toner on my face, but it's actually a potent serum. It has a subtle fragrant scent and a refreshing feel. My skin feels slightly sticky for a minute but after it gets absorbed by my skin, it feels like nothing on. In a way, this "activates" my moisturizer, making it delve deeper into my skin. After my skincare routine, my skin feels fresh and soft every time.

Ever since I started blogging, I've abused my skin by experimenting with skincare and makeup and there's always a risk of breakouts and/or allergies with that. Now, my skin is the healthiest it has ever been! My cheeks are soft to touch and they have never itched again. The yellow tones of my skin has also been reduced, and if you don't consider my dark circles (since I can't use this on my eye area), my skin looks more even now. And on occasional hormonal breakouts, I'm left with dark spots on my chin but they have lightened, too!

For me:
  • Healthy brightness - YES!
  • Even tone - Can be.
  • Pure translucency - Yes.
  • Minimised appearance of pores - Not really, my pores still say "HELLO!"
  • Smooth suppleness - YES!

Price: P1,895 for 30ml

The Body Shop Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum is a must try, and I think it can work for ALL skin types. I'm making this a mainstay in my skincare routine and will be repurchasing this for sure.
