Review: In Her Element Masknegel

After over a year in lockdown, and I have accepted that my overall skin condition was better pre-pandemic, even if I wore makeup daily during that time. I thought that not wearing makeup meant less breakouts... Joke lang pala! I've been working from home for over a year and we only turn on the AC during the evening to save on electricity. Since it's so hot and humid, my skin's ALWAYS oily and more prone to breakouts.

Enter In Her Element Masknegel ~ control acne and calm skin with these following powerful ingredients:
  • Cica - or centella asiatica, for soothing skin
  • Salicylic Acid - a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) for exfoliation
  • Tea Tree Oil - for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties

This fast-acting pimple gel was particularly helpful for me when I suddenly got a bump under my earlobe. I wasn't sure if it was a lymph node acting up (as it was a bit painful) or cystic acne, but I felt that it was the latter so I applied Maskegel twice a day on the affected spot. True enough, the painful bump which turned out to be a pimple did not push through - it flattened out instead!

I also use this on random breakout spots and comedones on my face, and it works well in drying out those pesky spots. The pimples under my eye area and the whitehead near the tip of my nose were gone in 5 days.

Review & Swatches: In Her Element Butterlips Conditioning Color

It's time for In Her Element #ButterlipsParty! 💋

Say hello to my new WFH lippies! In Her Element Butterlips Conditioning Color hydrates the lips with juicy and lush color. 🥰

The shades are named after Filipino folklore goddesses.

The upper swatches are Butterlips Conditioning Color in full application, while the lower swatches are blotted with tissue for a matte finish. (This is the tint the lip balm leaves when the balmy layer wears off.)

✨ Tala - a pinkish plum, named after the goddess of the stars. Among the three, Tala is the most wearable and natural-looking shade on me. I loved this instantly, as it's the usual shade of berry that I gravitate towards. My most used lipsticks are of this color family.

🌙 Mayari - a muted clay brown, named after the goddess of the moon. Mayari surprisingly looks coral on me. I love the 90s brown lip, but this doesn't look brown on me at all.

☀️ Hanan - a bright coral with salmon pink tone, named after the goddess of the morning. What a surprise! I didn't think Hanan would work on me, but it does live up to its claim brightening up the face instantly. Among the three shades, M says this looks best on me. It makes me look alive, even when the rest of my face is bare.

Pros:
✔️ It glides on your lips like a buttery lip balm with its smooth, melting texture.
✔️ It colors your lips like a lipstick.
✔️ It leaves a hardworking tint that makes your lips look healthy even as the balm wears off.

Cons:
❌ Because of its buttery texture, don't twist the balm all the way up as it may not go back down. I had to manually push Tala down after application.
❌ For the OC: The transparent cap can catch some of the product as you put it back on even if you're careful, so it may look messy.

In Her Element Nourishing Cocoa Balm

I currently only have one lip balm in my kit, and In Her Element Nourishing Cocoa Balm is the most versatile balm I have ever used.

This product used to be In Her Element Nourish & Cleanse Balm. It came in a 30g pot (priced at P595) and you can use it on dry areas of the body and also the lips, and even as makeup remover. The product was discontinued for a short while and it came back as this lip balm now in stick form and I love it to bits!

The balm looks pretty in pink, but the product itself has no tint when worn. Pardon the haggard packaging as I have been bringing it with me everywhere even before I had taken product shots of it.

Ingredients

When worn

It's such a treat for my lips. It smells like chocolate but tastes like nothing so I'm not tempted to lick it off. It has a soft, buttery texture that just glides on the lips. It feels cushy and hydrating without looking too shiny. And I love that it's still multi-purpose. I use this on my dry cuticles and it's a miracle worker. And for travel, this can sub as makeup remover. While my lips aren't chappy to begin with, this has worked wonders for my cracked heels as well. Yes, I have used this on my feet - not directly of course! I dispense some balm, massage it on my heels, and put on socks before I sleep. I used this religously for 3 days and immediately saw signs of improvement, and within a week, my heels were back to normal. I highly recommend this product!
