Jonah's Fruitshake, Boracay

Just because it's summer, it's time for another vacation-related post! A visit to Jonah's Fruitshake is one of the must-dos when in Boracay. This fruitshake joint is located beachfront in Station 1. You may opt to have your orders for dine-in, where your fruitshakes would be served in tall and wide glasses, or choose to have it for take-out, where it will be served in plastic bottles.

Jonah's Fruitshake

Initially, I was a bit skeptical on how people claimed that Jonah's Fruitshake serves "the best fruitshakes ever" and such. However, all it took was a sip for me to believe.

Banana Choco Peanut (P110.00)

I asked the waitress what their bestselling fruitshake was, and the Banana Choco Peanut was one of those that she mentioned that tickled my fancy. Indeed, I loved this how thick, creamy and chunky(!) this drink was. It tasted like banana and chocnut mixed together, with small chunks of crispy peanuts that added a unique texture and twist to the drink. The shake was thick, let me repeat, that you'd have to exert more effort in sipping it just so it would come up to the straw (versus the watery shakes I have tried in other restaurants before), but I am so not complaining since it's really, really good.
 

Melon Mango (P110.00)

On my second visit, I wanted to try something more fruity and light, hence I chose Melon Mango. This fruitshake was less dense than the banana-based shakes, but of course still refreshing. Jonah's Fruitshakes  are sweet, but never too sweet or overdone. However, I wasn't as delighted with this one compared to my first Jonah's Fruitshake experience. I was more satisfied with my first order of Banana Choco Peanut, since I'm into thicker, chocolatey shakes.

More melon-based drinks for my friends. Though refreshing, these tasted more ordinary than special.

Banana Choco Vanilla (P110.00)

Another fruitshake that I loved was Banana Choco Vanilla! It's a super thick and creamy banana shake with choco/vanilla milk in it. Quite similar with my beloved Banana Choco Peanut less the chunks and nuts. It tasted like the chocolate milk I used to drink as a kid. I would definitely order this the next time we get back to this beautiful island.
 

The thing is, you just have to order the right shake according to your preference, and you'd get that "best fruitshake ever" experience, too!

Lemoni Cafe and Restaurant, Boracay

A trip to Boracay meant good times and good food, and one restaurant that I liked was Lemoni Cafe, located in D'Mall. Lemoni Cafe has a very chill, refereshing vibe coupled with the healthy gourmet cuisine they serve. If you're up to treating yourself to a special meal, this is the place to go.

ALL-DAY BREAKFAST

 

Pinoy tapa, two eggs and garlic rice (P290.00)

Lemoni Cafe serves all-day breakfast meals, so my friends treated themselves to these hearty Filipino breakfast dishes of tapa, bangus, and longaniza.

SANDWICHES

 

Caesar chicken wraps (P270.00)

This order of Caesar chicken wraps was mine, since I wasn't that hungry so I opted for a sandwich. Lemoni Cafe has a wide array of sandwiches - be it with vegetables, turkey, fish, or chicken. I loved how fresh the homemade bread and crisp the veggies are in this wrap, and the fact that it has a lot of soft chicken strips in it, which made it definitely filling. It came with a side dish of homemade potato chips.

MAIN COURSES

 

Pan-fried Mahi-Mahi with warm potato salad and lemon butter garlic sauce (P390.00)

I'm into fish dishes, and lemon butter garlic sauce sounds divine, so I'll make sure to order this one if ever I go back to Boracay. The way this is dish was presented is so nice, we almost didn't want to touch it so as to not mess up its design.

Chicken, pancetta carbonara (P350.00)

They also serve pasta, just like this carbonara dish with chicken and topped with crisp bacon bits.

Grilled pork chops, sautéed vegetables, and yogurt mint sauces (P390.00)

Among all of our orders, this one had the biggest serving. Do excuse the photo, but it really does look huge and appetizing in actual. If you're a meat-lover, get this one!

Though the price tag might be a big high, don't let it intimidate you. I loved how Lemoni Cafe gives much effort in presenting their food in a beautiful way, and the fact that they serve dishes that are fresh, delicious, and healthy definitely makes it worth a try.

Henna Tattoo at P&P Tattoo Boracay

Because of the Chinese New Year festivities, I had a super long weekend (which meant no work for 5 days straight!). I'm so happy that my colleagues and I went to Boracay for a vacation or else I'd be so bored at home! I just came back to Manila on Tuesday, so you could expect Boracay-themed posts from today onwards. Let's start off with a henna tattoo, because when in Boracay, this is one of the must-dos!

There are lots of small stalls that offer henna tattoo services around Boracay, and you could haggle with the artists for a good price. These henna tattoos would last for as long as 2 weeks and would eventually fade. It's perfect for those who don't want to get permanently inked for life.

P&P Tattoo, Boracay

A small design typically costs just about P100.00, but I wanted somewhere nice, clean, cozy, and air-conditioned so I chose to do it at P&P Tattoo in D'Mall. A small-sized henna tattoo here costs P200.00.

 

Outside the store were clearbooks filled with various designs to of henna tattoos to choose from. Since I couldn't find a design I particularly liked, I just described it and let the artist work his magic. It's risky this way, but after seeing the outcome, it was well worth the surprise.

Nope, that's not my tattoo! Since it's the Year of the Water Snake, my colleague wanted to have a snake coiled on his arm, hence the design. The artist first stenciled the outline of the design then proceeded to fill in the spots with black henna ink. This design costs P300.00.

I told the artist that I wanted some flowers and butterflies on my left shoulder/back, and he drew it on the spot. Since I couldn't see my back, I was so excited to take a glimpse of it once it was finished. He told me that he would make something that would look nice on my back, and here it is!

Tips:

1. I was told to rinse the henna tattoo off with plain water (and no soap) after 1.5 hours (when the tattoo was completely dry). This will remove the residue. After doing so, I gently wiped the spot with soft tissue to prevent it from staining towels and clothes.

2. Don't apply sunblock prior to having your henna tattoo done. I wish I knew this earlier. My colleague didn't use sunblock prior to having his snake tattoo done, so his was still jet black after rinsing. Mine turned to a dark gray shade, but the details are still intact and well-defined.

3. The ink to be used has to be freshly prepared. If the ink is not freshly prepared, or has been sitting for 3 hours or more, then the henna tattoo won't be as dramatic after rinsing. The tattoo would turn light gray right after rinsing (which was what happened to some of my colleagues who had their henna tattoo done on a stall by the beach.) I learned this from the tattoo artist.

4. Using lotions will hasten fading of the henna tattoo. If you want to preserve yours, skip the lotion.

 

Sunsets in Boracay are breathtaking, so my colleagues didn't miss this chance to have a photoshoot by the beach!

I personally loved the super feminine design of my henna tattoo, but I will definitely do an edgier one next time around! Have you ever had a henna tattoo done? What design did you choose?
