Banana Boat Ultra Protect Sunsceen Lotion SPF 80 PA+++

When I went to the beach early this year, I made sure to pack SPF along with my beach attire. I wouldn't want to risk looking like a lobster with red, sunburned skin and the zombie-like peeling that follows. Never. This time, I brought along this Banana Boat Ultra Protect Sunsceen Lotion SPF 80 PA+++, which I used only for my body as I had a separate face sunscreen. I think 80 is a pretty safe number, any more higher than that would mean loads more of unnecessary chemicals sticking to my skin.

Banana Boat Ultra Protect Sunsceen Lotion SPF 80 PA+++ (P399.00)

Banana Boat Sunscreen Ultra Protect Lotion provides photostable, long lasting, high UVA and UVB protection that helps protect skin from sunburn and premature aging. This water resistant, quick absorbing formula contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, so skin stays hydrated while protecting it from the sun.

While I love going to the beach, I don't really like getting dark. I don't like to risk severe sun damage and wrinkly skin when I'm old, so I'm just being careful. It turns out, this one's the best sunscreen lotion I've tried (so far). Sure, I did get just a bit sun-kissed from 3 sunny days on the beach, but I didn't tan with this one.

Pros:
  • It comes in a squeeze-type tube container for easy dispensing.
  • This sunscreen lotion contains SPF 80 PA+++, higher than most suncreen lotions in the market.
  • It smells actually good for a sunscreen lotion. It's fresh with hints of aloe.
  • It contains aloe vera, known to soothe sunburned skin.
  • It doesn't feel too sticky or oily, and is easily absorbed.
  • It kept me sunburn-free. If I didn't tell you that I went to the beach, then you wouldn't have noticed my skin getting darker. The same goes for my group of friends who used this same sunscreen.
  • It doesn't get easily washed off in the water, but still you'd have to reapply.

Cons:
  • Nothing.

Tips:
  • Apply 15 minutes before sun exposure to give it ample time to be absorbed, or else it will all be just washed off.
  • Reapply throughout the day, especially after swimming and towel-drying.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and fabric.

Price: P399.00/90ml
Would I repurchase? Yes, but only for my next beach trip.
Available in leading department stores.

I'm curious. In the sweltering Manila heat, do you still use sunblock on your body on a regular basis? (I don't, and I'm guilty!) I can't bear putting any form of lotion on my body during daytime, but it's during the night when I spoil my skin with super moisturizing body oils, lotions, and butters. For daytime, I just use my umbrella! :D

Love,
Helen

  1. i got the SPF50 version of this and it stung a bit when I applied it on my face. It didn't cause any harm but it was super super uncomfortable and bothering.

    1. Sad to hear that. I haven't personally tried this on my face though, and I have no plans of doing so since it's too fragrant (to be used on the face). But as a body sunscreen, this worked wonders. :)

  2. I loooooove Banana Boat! Their sunscreens are affordable and effective! I think I've tried every variant. Haha! I use them on my face too with no problems.

And yes, I still use sunscreen whenever I go out, especially since it's so hot outside. It's kinda sticky at first, but it dries eventually and gives my skin a nice glow. I'm afraid of sun damage too, so I use sunscreen + umbrella + shades.

    1. Ikaw na yung Banana Boat queen! This one's the only variant I've tried from them, and I loved it. :) I really should follow your good example, sun protection is a must especially with the heat we're having lately.

  3. I also have the spf50 version of this and I still got a mild sun burn :(, well maybe I got a little too excited to go for a swim and didn't wait for a whole 20 minutes before going under the sun though. But yes, its not sticky, and it smells nice. And I'm also guilty of not using sunscreen on my body! I just use facial moisturizer and bb cream with spf if I'm going out.

    1. We're the same, I also only use a moisturizer (with SPF) and BB cream on my face everyday and no SPF for my body. Hope we find something totally non-sticky for the Manila heat. :D

I used SPF 40 for my face (at the beach) and my nose got a little red, but no stinging. I guess it's pretty important to use sunscreen with high SPF. :)

    1. Ahh, don't put lotion anymore before applying this sunblock. Mas matagal kasi talaga mag absorb pag marami/makapal yung layer na naapply sa skin. This one alone works fine. :)

    1. Start with a 5-peso coin size nalang then build gradually para di masyadong marami in one go. Sabi kasi nila parang "shot glass" ata dapat un pang full body, kaso di ko keri yun kasi feel ko masyado sticky/oily. :)
